Evolving Themes and Trends in the Treatment of Breast Cancer

Launch Presentation

Intended Audiences:
In Conversation will be pre-recorded and available at www.cos.ca, the Web Portal of the Canadian Oncology Societies and promoted to COS members.
In addition to medical specialists, this program will be available to the general public.

Objective:
The program will provide an overview of topics of significant interest arising at the 2002 San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference.

Specific goals:
Inform participants of the results of the ATAC trial (Arimidex, Tamoxifen, Alone or in Combination) in postmenopausal women with early breast cancer. Updating the efficacy results based on a median follow-up of 47 months. (note: Abstract 13)

Provide background and understanding of the NCIC CTG MA.5 trial: A randomized trial comparing CEF to CMF in premenopausal women with node positive breast cancer. (note: Abstract 17)

Review the data on dose-dense chemotherapy as a predictor of superior treatment over conventional scheduling (CS) and equivalence of sequential (SC) vs. combination adjuvant chemotherapy (CC) for node positive breast cancer. (note: Abstract 15).
