“There is evidence that the number of patients
requiring surgery for their diagnosis and/or management of various cancers
is increasing. Although there are many factors involved in the timely
delivery of excellent health care, the Canadian Society of Surgical Oncology
recommends that appropriate numbers of specialists be suitably trained
and have available the necessary resources to allow patients to be seen
in consultation within two weeks of referral and to allow treatment, including
surgery, to be initiated within two weeks of completion of any necessary
preoperative tests.”.
